Natural Beauty Tip #2:
Understand the difference between Natural products, Organic products and the “So-called” ones
Definition of Natural:
1. Existing in or, formed by, nature.
In the Beauty Industry, a product can be labeled as “natural” when its ingredients are “derived from a natural substance”. For example, even products containing synthetic chemicals such as Cocamide DEA of Sodium Hydroxysultain followed by the term “derived from coconut oil” are called natural.
Defnition of Organic:
1. Simple and healthful and close to nature.
2. Relating or belonging to the class of chemical compounds having a carbon basis.
First, you must know that certified organic beauty products must contain at least 95% of organic elements excluding water, salt and minerals.
What we usually don’t know is what organic beauty products are really made of. Organic ingredients are not exactly what people expect them to be! For instance, organic chemistry uses substances that contain carbon. Carbon is a chemical present in all living things. Legally, the Beauty Industry is allowed to classify any product that contains carbon as “organic”. So, if a product contains petrol, which has organic compounds such as carbon, it can be labeled “organic”.
