Juglans regia

Walnut Tree  - Juglans regia

Description:

The walnut (Juglandaceae family) is a striking tree that grows to a height of 10 to 20 meters and can have a circumference of 5 to 6 meters. The aromatic, pinnate leaves have a bitter taste. The globular fruit has a green husk (the shuck) and contains a well-known, convoluted, edible kernel (the nut). In France, walnuts are produced mainly in the South West and the Isère region.

Traditions:

The ancients believed that the walnut nut was a gift from the Gods. It is a symbol of fertility. The walnut is an important medicinal tree: its leaves, shuck, fruit and buds have many applications, both internal and external. The nuts are also very flavorsome and nutritious.
