Almond
In Greek mythology, the almond tree represented youthfulness, fragility and virginal grace. Up until the beginning of the century, the almond tree was one of the symbols of the Alpes de Haute Provence, just like lavender and the olive tree. In the 1930s almond tree cultivation was abandoned to make room for more profitable crops. Today L'Occitane is supporting a project led by the Alpes de Haute-Provence administration to revive the cultivation of this beautiful tree in Provence.
Natural Almond Sourcing
During early spring, the almond tree is covered in delicate white flowers, but harvesting must wait until October for the blossoms to transform into fruit. Our almond ingredients are primarily of Haute Provence origin† in order to help rebuild the presence of the almond tree in the Provencal landscape.
† Some diversification of resources is required due to our increased production of almond range products.
The cosmetic benefits of Almond
The firm ivory nut, which grows protected in a beautiful soft green velvet shell, is very much appreciated for its cosmetic properties. Extracted from the nut is the elegant and rich almond oil, milk, and proteins which moisturizes, nourishes, smoothes and firms the skin.
Well known for its moisturizing and softening benefits, the proteins of the almond shell also leave the epidermis firmer and more elastic. Combined with other ingredients, these proteins can fight the appearance of cellulite and reshape the silhouette.
