Verbena Exotic - Litsea cubeba

  • Description
    • Litsea cubeba (Lauraceae family), also known as exotic verbena, is a small tree from tropical Asia whose leaves, flowers and fruits have a fresh lemony odor. It grows wild in the mountains in the south of Yangzi, in the Yunnan province and in Tibet. The plant is widely cultivated in China (where its name is shan ji jiao) to make essential oil.
  • Traditions
    • Exotic verbena is frequently used in traditional Chinese medicine for its calming and sedative properties. Its essential oil, with its lemony aroma, is recommended in aromatherapy to treat nervous conditions (insomnia, depression) and as an anti-inflammatory. It can be blended with a massage oil to relieve tendinitis. When the scent is diffused in the home or office, it helps to calm tensions.
  • Properties
    • Exotic verbena essential oil has antiseptic and soothing properties. It purifies and cleanses the skin. It is widely used in perfumery for its intense, fresh and fruity notes, evocative of lemon.
