Many types of peppermint are cultivated on a large scale. Menthol is extracted from peppermint and widely used in confectionery and by the soft drinks industry. The mint aroma also has many pharmaceutical applications. Peppermint essential oil is very strong and dangerous for young children. It should therefore be used with care.
