“Albert Camus, World Citizen” at the Cité du Livre in Aix-en-Provence

The politically committed journalist and writer is celebrated at the library La Cité du Livre in Aix-en-Provence. The exhibition “Albert Camus, World Citizen” goes back over how this historical figure saw his environment through documents, photographs but also and especially through his own writings.

In the light, the earth remains our first and our last love”. This is one of many quotes from the works of Albert Camus that nourish the exhibition dedicated to him at the Cité du Livre in Aix-en-Provence, originally scheduled until January 5, but since extended to close on 11 January 2014.

“Albert Camus, World Citizen” is an exhibition that is like a journey which follows the ideas of the committed and resilient journalist and writer through the world around him. Place, friendship, art, play, language, war, history, his concept of “la pensée de midi,” love, kingdom; ten major themes are discussed with the relative quote, documents, manuscripts and photographs for each.

For the realization of “Albert Camus, World Citizen,” no less than four Camus specialists contributed. The scenography is by Yacine Aït Kaci, an artist specialized in the digital arts who integrated semi-opaque screens, music, and quotes read by Francis Huster – a way to make this exhibition more engaging in the eyes of the younger generation.
