JeeYoung Lee’s Fantastic World on Display at Opiom Gallery

Young talent alert: Korean artist JeeYoung Lee lands in Europe for the first time. For the occasion, the Opiom Gallery presents until March 7 "Stage of Mind: Scènes d’Esprit," a new exhibition dedicated to her work.
By Justine Fiordelli

At just 30 years of age and drawing on her vivid imagination, this young Korean artist has all the makings of a major artist. Recently graduated from Hongik University in Seoul in her native Korea, JeeYoung Lee creates very surprising colorful photographic tableaux in which she stars as the central subject. Representing her maddest dreams and her various psychological states, they echo her inner world and plunge the audience into a universe that is both surprising and a little oppressive. Discover it yourself until March 7 2014 the Opiom Gallery, near Grasse, in the Alpes-Maritimes.

Oversized everyday objects, infestations of insects, saturation of space and predominance of colors... The dreamlike situations represented in the exhibition arouse astonishment and curiosity. To imagine such scenes, JeeYoung Lee explains that she is inspired by everything around her: legends, fables, literature and even childhood memories. She staged these diverse and very personal influences for months in her small 3.60 x 6 metre studio in Seoul, a living space that she transformed into a unique and personalized place of creation to give life to her photographs. One thing is certain, the result is amazing and definitely worth seeing!
