La Louve Garden in Bonnieux : designer Greenery

Created in 1986 by Nicole de Vésian, a designer for Hermès, the La Louve Garden in Bonnieux in the Vaucluse region is one of the most beautiful private green spaces in all of France. Over 1,600m2, Provençale vegetation and minerals unite in a feast for the eyes.

It only opens its doors to the public once a month, and during the Rendez-Vous au Jardin festival in June, which is probably also what gives La Louve Garden in Bonnieux, in the heart of the Vaucluse region, its mysterious charm.

Nicole de Vésian, a designer for Hermès, dreamed up this private garden of 1,600m2, labeled a ‘Remarkable Garden’, in 1986, the year she retired. When this woman of taste bought La Louve, a cottage in the village, its garden was derelict, a complete wasteland. She would spend ten years perfecting her masterpiece, going as far as designing the wooden benches, before selling the property to Judith Pillsbury, a garden enthusiast, who continues today to maintain this designer garden.

A real harmony reins inside the La Louve Garden, a perfect blend of Provençale fragrances: lavender, thyme, rosemary, plants from the native scrubland, shrubs pruned into balls, and a variety of stones, notably pebbles from the Durance river. An ode to relaxation and meditation, this private garden, among the 10 most beautiful in all of France, is really worth a visit.
