Organic Verbena Farming in Provence

It's in Visan that the first distillation of organic Verbena took place. Return to this incredible moment in Provence with Rémi Margiela, cultivator for L'Occitane.

The winemaker and today organic verbena grower Rémi Margiela welcomes us in the heart of his young field of verbena, where a lemony perfume fills our nostrils and we are overwhelmed by the abundant perspectives of verbena. Later in the day we have a meeting with the distiller Philippe Soguel at the Bleu Provence Distillery in Nyons for the first ever distillation of this organic verbena.

It’s a small milestone for all the players in this sector, from the producer to the laboratory, and including the distiller. The first drops of the floral water that issue from the distillation process already carry the properties, values, scents and richness hoped for by all. It’s the conclusion of a labor and an entire ritual performed before us, like a well-rehearsed dance which continues nonetheless to be magic.
