Philogène Ravel: Creating French Linen since 1865

Famous for the manufacture of ceramics, the Manufacture Ravel, based in Aubagne for over 170 years, today is also celebrated in a completely different field. Relaunched in 2011, Philogène Ravel is dedicated to the creation of fine French household linen.

Philogène Ravel is above all a great family story. If Ravel’s ceramic activities began back in 1837 with the launch of the Ravel pottery, it was not until 1865 that its weaving activity took shape. And we must wait for Philogène Ravel to marry Rose Decroix in 1910 for the weaver Auriol to install his looms within the walls of the Pottery, in Aubagne, in the heart of Provence. Then began the fabrication of boat sails, canvas sneakers and tarpaulins for trucks... But in the 1950s, this weaving activity stopped and Philogène dedicated himself solely to the production of ceramics.

In 2011, a major change took place. Ravel’s great granddaughters Julie and Marion, now at the head of the Ravel Pottery, decided to revive the Philogène Ravel brand. If they chose to maintain the brand’s history by installing the store within the Manufacture Ravel, as was the case five generations ago, they did not for all that forget about modernity, proposing in parallel an e-shop dressed in the colors of Provence. What do we find there? Simple and refined linen including tablecloths, napkins, tea towels, aprons, bedspreads, cushions, fabrics by the meter, without forgetting the famous 100% linen beach towels ready for the first days of summer. The collection is large and offers items bearing the name of different boats, such as Brigantine, Tartane, Trinquette... Here you are faced with an authentic universe with Mediterranean accents.
