Rouge Guinguette, a Charming Countryside Bistro

That’s what the residents in the village of Jouques think! Inaugurated in July 2012 by Christine Charvet, Rouge Guinguette is one of those countryside bistros that has it all. Tastefully decorated, the restaurant offers an enticing wine list and delicious yet simple cuisine.
By Justine Fiordelli

Run by Christine Charvet, a wine specialist with years of experience, this little country bistro located in Jouques near Aix-en-Provence has made a name for itself in the last year and a half as a convivial spot where everyone enjoys gathering for an aperitif amongst friends. With a large outdoor terrace and an interior decorated with vintage industrial-style furniture, the pleasant setting at Rouge Guinguette ensures that the ambiance is always just right.

In the kitchen, Christine Charvet creates a “roguish” cuisine made from regional produce and makes it a point to “work with both the flavors and colors” of her dishes. The menu varies each day depending on the chef’s whims and desires, with recipes that aim to be both authentic and tasty: wood fired pizza, hand-chopped tartars, calf’s head, pig’s trotter, aioli, andouillette sausage… As for the wines, the choice is just as vast, offering a selection of beverages exclusively sourced from local organic producers. So there’s something to please everyone!
