The Museum of Valence has reopened!

Closed to the public since 2006, the Museum of Valence officially reopened its doors on December 14, 2013. After seven years of renovation and expansion, it is again shiny and new, and boasting a new, 5,750 m2 exhibition area.

Between paintings, sculpture, decorative arts and furniture covering the period from the sixteenth century to the present day, the Museum of Valence now houses more than 20,000 works. Redesigned to be more lively, and enriched with a belvedere offering a panoramic 360 ° view from the Vercors to the Ardeche mountains, today it stands out as one of the top five museums in the Rhône-Alpes region.

Located in the heart of the city, next to the Saint Apollinaire Cathedral, the Museum of Valence, dedicated to Fine Arts and Archaeology, has evolved with the times. If offers new spaces such as the Arsene Héritier library, rich with over 10,000 specialist works, and temporary exhibition rooms of 400 m2. It has also made the choice to equip itself digitally.

Throughout the visit, touchscreen tablets are available for visitors. But that’s not all! By creating a smartphone application and a multi- sensory space for sensory impaired people around the work of artist Paolo Porpora, the Museum of Valence hopes to attract many different audiences.
