The Okhra Cooperative Turns 20

Located in Roussillon, Ôkhra – the Applied Pigment and Ochre Conservatory – is celebrating its twentieth anniversary this month. An opportunity for this cooperative to celebrate its success and cast an eye back over its achievements... See you on June 14!
By Justine Fiordelli

Ôkhra’s reputation is firmly established. Founded in 1994 by Mathieu Barrois and located in the old Mathieu ocher factory, this cooperative with recognized public interest aims to preserve the industrial activity of ocher, a mission that has been respected for 20 years already! Famous for its incredible color, this natural pigment covers the local landscape and is traditionally used as a natural dye.

To celebrate its twentieth anniversary, Ôkhra goes all out, hosting a celebratory day next June 14 in the Mathieu factory with the opportunity to discover or rediscover the skills of this trade. On the program are practical workshops on color and painting for children and adults (“Pedaling in the dark”, “Repainting the factory buildings”, “The color that suits me”), cycling tours, a visit to the Péquincan valley in a horse-drawn carriage, an elephant market, and a picnic...

Everything has been organized to create a buzz. Also, don’t miss the special exhibition “20 years” organized by the cooperative. It’s the opportunity for professionals and the general public alike to revisit the past 20 years and better envision those to come!
