The Rencontres d’Arles: Discovering a City that Celebrates Photography, A Fubiz Recommendation

Each year, those who make and love photography gather in the city of Arles, in Provence; this place conducive to the authenticity of this art, with its ancient stones and surprising exhibition venues.

From 7 July to 21 September 2014, the Rencontres Photographiques festival presents 50 photography exhibitions and workshops in various emblematic sites of the city. So we can walk the Boulevard des Lices to admire photos displayed on the walls, or prefer the intimacy of the Cloître Saint-Trophisme, the St. Blaise Church or the Chapelle de la Charité where photos alternate with the ancient stones. Exhibitions will also take place in another unique place: the national French rail network workshops that can be found in the middle of an industrial zone.

For this 45th edition, the director François Hébel bows out on the theme of The Parade, booking Vik Muniz, Vincent Pérez, Madoz and David Bailey. This marks the return of big names such as Christian Lacroix for his exhibition Arlesienne, Martin Parr who will present Chinese books, and Raymond Depardon will pay tribute to the soldiers of the Great War.

After a day in this city, the charm worked its magic, we fell in love with Arles: Arles and its narrow streets, Arles and its large buzzing and sunny squares, where it’s so good to come together to celebrate the art of photography!
