Olive Harvest

Along with vineyards and oak trees, the olive tree is a key feature of the Mediterranean environment. A symbol of strength and vitality, it is capable of surviving in the most arid regions. Its resistance to dryness is mainly due to its leaves, which have an amazing ability to regulate water. L’OCCITANE combines the long-lasting moisturizing powers of olive leaf extract with olive oil and olive water – obtained by cold pressing the fruits.

Traceability

Our three organic extracts come from Provence. We source most of our olive oil from the "Moulin du Luberon" in Volx, which is Ecocert-certified. This is an A.O.C. controlled-origin olive oil from Haute Provence.

The Moulin du Luberon has an organic olive grove of 1,200 trees, covering 5 hectares. Olivier Chertier works at the mill: "Some of our olive trees grow to a thousand years old. When we converted our land to organic production, we noticed that the trees were even more beautiful and looked as if they were in better health."

The olives are picked with special combs and then cold pressed to produce a water and oil of exceptional purity and quality. The leaves are gathered during the olive harvest or when the olive trees are pruned

  • An olive tree can begin to produce its olives when it is 6 year old but it is only when it is 10 years that it fully produces.
  • An olive tree produces 30kg of olives by year, which will give between 4.5 and 6 kg of olive oil.
